A Long-Beloved Okonomiyaki Restaurant Established in 1946, Offering Various Local Favorites from Osaka
Botejyu was established in 1946, and this long-beloved okonomiyaki restaurant boasts over 70 years of tradition. Botejyu’s okonomiyaki was born of its founder’s desire to offer something delicious to hungry people during the post-war reconstruction period.
This restaurant was the first to introduce the idea of topping okonomiyaki with mayonnaise — now considered the standard way to prepare the dish. Enjoy the traditional pork-topped okonomiyaki, crispy on the outside and fluffy inside, or savor the modan-yaki: a hearty okonomiyaki variant originally prepared as a meal for the cooks to eat. Or try other authentic Osaka favorites, like thick yakisoba noodles prepared with three different sauces, or takoyaki octopus dumplings cooked up crispy on the outside and tender inside.

Classic Okonomiyaki
Botejyu® was founded in 1946 in Tamade, Osaka, a city of food lovers.
After World War II, Botejyu pioneered the idea of topping okonomiyaki with mayonnaise — a precious commodity at the time.
This combination of okonomiyaki and mayonnaise originally came from Botejyu, for one of the greatest collaborations in Osaka food culture history.
Takoyaki Octopus Dumplings
This dish from Osaka has become a beloved comfort food nationwide.
Botejyu® takoyaki octopus dumplings use a unique blend of flours, mixed with dashi stock made from kombu kelp and bonito tuna flakes for a flavorful batter. The result: takoyaki that are crispy on the outside and rich and gooey on the inside, with deliciously firm octopus in each one.
The taste of home cooking from Osaka.
Modan-Yaki
A combination of two Osaka favorites: okonomiyaki and yakisoba noodles.
Modan-yaki was invented at Botejyu® during the period of rapid economic growth after World War II, and this dish has its origins in the “fully loaded okonomiyaki” that the cooks would make for themselves. Eventually, this became a secret menu item offered only to regular customers, and the Japanese name slowly changed to the stylish and modern-sounding “modan-yaki,” which spread nationwide as this became a standard menu item.
Kushi-Katsu Fried Skewers
A local specialty,
born and raised in Osaka,
and beloved by people of all ages.
Served with a uniquely delicious dipping sauce that is light and refreshing yet with a complex depth, with the perfect blend of spicy and tart.
A must-try item for anyone who hasn’t experienced it!
The natural flavor of the ingredients and the crunchiness of the breading make for an incredibly addictive combination.
Teppanyaki
Botejyu® has developed their own sauces, each designed to bring out the best of choice ingredients like meat, seafood, and vegetables. Since their founding, the restaurant has prepared countless servings of okonomiyaki and yakisoba.
This experience is why they also have such confidence in their ability to cook teppanyaki: whether adjusting the heat for each ingredient or choosing just the right time to add seasonings, teppanyaki offers cooks the perfect chance to show off their skills. Experience for yourself the kind of teppanyaki dishes that only Botejyu® can offer.
