Safety and Security

Always be ready for any situation.

Always be ready for any situation.

The Kansai Airports Group has establish the "Kansai Airports Business Continuity Plan (BCP)" which stipulates a contingency plan to ensure the safety of customers and airport employees in all situations at the three airports in Kansai and to restore airport functions as soon as possible.
The BCP contains specific procedures and practical information to be immediately useful in emergencies at the airport.
We have a solid system where relevant organizations from inside and outside the airport gather to resolve the situation in the event of an emergency.
Our mission in emergencies is to quickly "prevent" crisis, "reduce" a disaster even if a crisis occurs, and "quickly restore" airport functions.

Ensuring safe operation of aircraft 24 hours a day

Ensuring safe operation of aircraft 24 hours a day

Runways are essential for aircraft to take off and land. KIX is operated 24 hours which means many aircraft use the runway day and night without any break.
If there is even a slight problem on the runway, the aircraft cannot take off and land safely.
There are various jobs to protect the safety of such aircraft at the three airports.
Airport staff protect runways and taxiways (road for aircraft) 24 hours a day, ensuring there are no obstacles (foreign objects falling or cracks on the road surface) that might interfere with the aircraft's operation, and any oil leaks from the aircraft, and whether there are any abnormal changes in the airfield lighting to guide pilots.
The aircraft can take off and land without any problems thanks to the staff who support the aircraft safety behind the scenes.

Trivia☝
The object or substance that can cause damage to an aircraft or its related systems are called FOD (Foreign Object Debris).

Professional group protecting the safety and security of customers

There are staff working to protect safety of customers in various fields at the three airports to ensure safe and comfortable time at the airport.

In addition to responding to inquiries from customers, there are also passenger guide staff who help customers in trouble, security staff who patrol the airport while keeping an eye on suspicious objects, cleaning staff who make comfortable and clean spaces, and facility operation management staff who inspect the electricity, air conditioning, water supply and drainage, and fire fighting equipment in the airport.
In addition, to protect customers and aircraft in the event of an emergency, fire defense personnel are stationed and training is carried out on a daily basis.
In this way, airport staff at the three airports work together to protect the safety of passengers.
Not only "staff" but please look for "security robots" that watch over the safety of customers ♪

Behind what is taken for granted, there is the passion of the airport staff with various missions.

To become the "last stronghold" of safe and secure travel

To become the "last stronghold" of safe and secure travel

A security check that you must undergo before you board an aircraft.
Security checks are conducted to make sure that there are no dangerous objects such as items that are explosive, ignitable, and flammable, toxic substances, or weapons in the carry-on baggage or passengers' belongings.
The inspectors are indispensable for ensuring the safety of the airport 365 days a year from early in the morning to late at night, and for passengers to fly safely.
In order to meet the strict demands of airlines and the airport operator, and to conduct safe and secure inspections, inspectors solve daily problems, exchange information with other airports, and compete with each other in terms of the skills they have developed in their daily work. There can be no "compromise" in safely.
The Kansai Airports Group is also implementing measures to ensure that customers can spend their time in airports and airplanes with peace of mind, such as infection prevention measures at security checkpoints and introducing security inspection rules via social media in a quiz format. We ask for your continued cooperation for a safe and secure trip.

Raising of the runway

Raising of the runway

From 2007 to 2008, KIX conducted the first full-scale renovation of Runway A since its opening in 1994.
Thanks to the renovation of Runway A which had been damaged over 10 years of use, the runway can be used safely and comfortably.

In addition, the uneven settlement of the airport island reduced the slope of the ground to drain rainwater from the runway, making it difficult for rainwater to flow. Therefore, the entire surface of Runway A was covered with new pavement by an average thickness of 25 cm to restore the runway to a sound condition.
As much as 160,000 tons of asphalt was used.
Along with the raising of seawalls, we are also raising Runway A of KIX to ensure safe operation of aircraft.

The daily safety of the runway is well protected by daily thorough inspection work!
