Twenty-four thousand people work at the three airports, which contributes to the creation of local community employment

The number of workers at KIX is 17,363 from 355 companies (FY 2017); at ITAMI, 5,980 from 112 companies (FY 2018); at KOBE, 1,069 from 34 companies (FY 2018). In total, about 500 companies with 24,000 employees are engaged in business at these airports. The numbers of all the airports have increased by about 20% from the previous survey.

About 80% of the employees live in the local communities, contributing to the creation of local employment opportunities. The airports are operated by local communities, many companies and organizations, and their employees.

Airport officials gather to make strong and sustainable airports

Airport officials gather to make strong and sustainable airports

Kansai Airports has initiated a Kansai Airports Business Continuity Plan(BCP PDF) to ensure that the airports are resilient to disasters and other risks. The most important aspect of the plan is the cooperation and partnership with related organizations.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, local governments, airlines, railroad and bus companies, police, fire departments, and many other organizations work together, and they gather at the Joint Crisis Management Group (JCMG) to sort out problems in emergency situations.

About 70 organizations at the three airports are working together in case of an emergency!

Partnerships are essential to airport operations, such as collaboration in various councils and committees.

In the airport business, we are working together to solve major common issues, such as safety, the environment, and improving customer satisfaction, through cross-organizational cooperation in councils and committees.

Working with local producers, chefs, and students to support local specialties and local production for local consumption

Working with local producers, chefs, and students to support local specialties and local production for local consumption

Hotel Nikko Kansai Airport devises and serves dishes using locally grown Izumisano produce. We also cooperate with neighboring areas including Osaka Prefecture to promote mutual exchanges.

We are rediscovering local specialty products such as "Mizunasu" and "Senshu Onion,” which are nationally known brand-name vegetables. Through partnerships with various stakeholders such as producers and schools, we promote the benefits of local vegetables and foster the agricultural and food industries.

Promotion of local production for local consumption will improve our food self-sufficiency!

Reduction of plastic amenities and cutlery

Reduction of plastic amenities and cutlery

In accordance with the Plastic Resource Circulation Law that went into effect on April 1, 2022, Hotel Nikko Kansai Airport is taking measures by replacing guest room amenities with earth-friendly materials to reduce plastic product waste.

For example, we have taken environmental measures by introducing biomass-made amenities in guest rooms, such as use of toothbrushes, razors, hairbrushes, and combs all made from plant materials. We are also working to reduce plastic waste by replacing mini bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body shampoo in guest rooms (premium economy and economy class) with pump-type refill bottles. The straws used in restaurants and banquets will also be made from biomass materials, and plastic materials will be reduced by 25% by using straws made from bio-PE and sugarcane.

Together with our customers, we will contribute to solving social issues such as global warming and ocean plastic problems by reducing the use of single-use plastics.

Japan’s first multi-airport concession operating three Kansai airports

Japan’s first multi-airport concession operating three Kansai airports

Kansai Airports Group is a private company that operates three airports—KIX, ITAMI, and KOBE—under a contract to operate public facilities (concession business). PFI, promoted by the Cabinet Office, stands for “Private Finance Initiative,” and refers to a method to construct, maintain, manage, and operate public facilities, using private-sector funds, management capabilities, and technical expertise. As a pioneering example of this PFI, Kansai Airports is operating the airports through public-private partnerships by making maximum use of ideas, knowhow, and private-sector funds which only private sectors can provide. We value partnerships with various stakeholders, such as government agencies, municipalities, and shareholders, and aim to operate the airports with a high level of customer satisfaction.

Kansai Airports Kobe, wholly owned by Kansai Airports, started operating KOBE on April 1, 2018, as a business taken over from Kobe City.

ORIX Corporation is a financial services group with offices in 31 countries and regions worldwide. VINCI Airports is a French corporation and a leading private airport operator that manages the operation of 45 airports worldwide in 12 countries and regions in Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

Through cross-border partnerships, we use international expertise and knowhow in airport operations.
